General Secretary - David Church

General

David Church was appointed General Secretary on June 1, 2019.

David first became involved at the provincial level when he was seconded to OECTA Provincial Office in 2002 from the Toronto Catholic District School Board, to work in the Collective Bargaining and Government Relations departments. In 2003, he was hired permanently to the Collective Bargaining department.

As secretariat liaison to the Occasional Teachers committee, David was responsible for the Occasional Teacher Bargaining Unit Presidents’ Workshop and in-service. He also served as the Association’s education finance expert and was a valuable member on the 2005, 2008, and 2012 Provincial Discussion Table teams. David Church was appointed the Deputy General Secretary on November 2, 2012, a position he held until June 2019, when he became General Secretary.

At the unit level, David was active on the Toronto Secondary Unit (TSU) Collective Bargaining committee from 1996 to 2002. He served as Chief Negotiator during the negotiation of the 2001-03 TSU collective agreement. He became actively involved in the union following the Social Contract of the early 1990s.

David began teaching in 1989 and was first assigned to Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School, where he taught science and special education.
