AGM Awards

The Association has the privilege each year of honouring former and active members who have given distinguished service at the provincial level and at their local units, as well as individuals who have made significant contributions to the Association and/or Catholic education.

Six awards are presented at the Annual General Meeting:

Life Membership

For retired members who have provided distinguished service to the Association at the provincial level. Up to four awards may be given in any year.

Join us in congratulating the 2016 award recipients: Ed Chudak,  Lyn Vause, and Joseph McDonald.

Nomination forms for the 2017 Life Membership award must be completed by unit presidents and returned to Provincial Office no later than October 15.

Honorary Membership

For individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the Association or to Catholic education. Up to two awards may be given in any year.

Join us in congratulating the 2016 award recipient: Pat McKeown.

Nomination forms for the 2017 Honorary Membership award must be completed by unit presidents and returned to Provincial Office no later than October 15.

The Marion Tyrrell Memorial Award of Merit

For a member who has made an outstanding contribution to the Association or to education in Catholic schools.

This award was not presented in 2016.

Nomination forms for the 2017 Marion Tyrrell Memorial award must be completed by unit presidents and returned to Provincial Office no later than October 15.

Pearse Shannon Memorial Association Service Award

For a current or past president or bargaining unit president who has made an outstanding contribution to the Association.

Join us in congratulating the 2016 award recipient: Nina March.

Nomination forms for the 2017 Pearse Shannon Memorial must be completed by unit presidents and returned to Provincial Office no later than October 15.

Fintan Kilbride Memorial Social Justice Recognition Award

For a member who demonstrates significant personal commitment to the achievement of social justice and who has inspired students to engage in activities focused on social justice objectives.

The Fintan Kilbride award was not presented in 2016.

Nomination forms for the 2017 Fintan Kilbride Memorial award must be compelted by unit presidents and returned to Provincial Office no later than October 15.

25-Year AGM Service Award

For a member who has attended 25 or more AGMs.

This award was not presented in 2016.

Nomination forms for the 2017 AGM Service Award must be completed by unit presidents and returned to Provincial Office no later than October 15.

Candidate Requirements

The nomination of a candidate shall be made:

  • By a unit after approval by its members at a general meeting
  • By the Provincial Executive after approval by its members at a Provincial Executive meeting
  • By the Council of Presidents after approval by its members at a meeting of the Council of Presidents (Any member may forward a name of a nominee to any one of the aforementioned bodies)
  • By a unit executive after unanimous approval of its members at a Unit Executive Meeting

The Awards Committee shall consider all nominees and make recommendation to the November meeting of the Provincial Executive.

For the 25 year AGM Service Award, OECTA members who meet the criteria should submit a completed nomination form to their local unit executive to be considered. Names will be forwarded to the provincial Awards Committee.

Nomination forms must be completed by unit presidents and returned to Provincial Office no later than October 15.
