On behalf of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association, I want to congratulate Pope Leo XIV on his historic election as the first American to lead the Roman Catholic Church. As he steps forward, we hope for a future rooted in compassion, justice, and service to others.
As Catholic teachers, we look to this new papacy with a renewed commitment to our mission. Pope Leo XIV’s election reminds us of the Church’s global and evolving character – a message that resonates in our classrooms, where we strive to nurture inclusivity, compassion, and moral leadership. His voice has the potential to inspire dialogue, inclusion, reflection, justice, and a deeper sense of purpose in Catholic education.
We pray for Pope Leo XIV as he begins this sacred responsibility and embrace the promise of his leadership to illuminate a thoughtful and faithful path forward – for the Church, for our school communities, and for the students we serve.
Sincerely,
René Jansen in de Wal, President of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association
