Changing the Narrative: Breaking Myths, Confronting Denial, and Advancing Justice in Catholic Education

Unpack the myths and mindsets that sustain racism in this transformative workshop inspired by Phillipe Copeland’s thought-provoking article, "The Art of Denial". This session will guide participants in examining the pervasive myth of reverse racism, the roots of denial and defensiveness, and their impact on meaningful dialogue about equity and justice. Through interactive discussions and reflective exercises, participants will explore how denial operates as both an individual and systemic mechanism to maintain power imbalances. Drawing from Copeland’s insights, we’ll delve into strategies for identifying and addressing defensiveness in ourselves and others, fostering courageous conversations, and building capacity for allyship and anti-racist action.  This workshop is designed for educators and leaders ready to challenge harmful narratives, confront uncomfortable truths, and cultivate a more just and inclusive learning environment. Let’s rewrite the story together!
