Councillor - Melissa Garrett
Melissa Garrett is serving her first term as a Councillor on the Provincial Executive.
Melissa has been active in the Association for many years. She has served on the provincial Teacher Education Network and Finance committees, and has been deeply involved at the local level with the Waterloo Unit, having served on the Elementary Bargaining Committee, as a Councillor and Recording Secretary on the local Executive, and for many years as an Association Representative.
Melissa began her teaching career as an elementary teacher with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board in 1993, after completing her Bachelor of Education at Western University.
To better support her colleagues' personal and professional well-being, Melissa completed a certificate in conflict management and mediation, and has pursued ongoing professional development with a focus on student and teacher mental health.
Melissa enjoys meeting new people and travelling with family. She is an avid vegetable and flower gardener, and loves taking what she grows and turning it into a gift of jam for friends and family.
“As the best gifts involve a bit of time and lots of love,” she says.
